Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth, Once Again?

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. – Job 38:1-4

For a week all local weather forecasts predicted from one to three inches of snow for the Houston area this past Thursday and Friday, February 3 and 4. All day Thursday people waited for a snowfall that never came. We did get plenty of freezing rain and ice. So what happened? I think a quote from Eric Berger the SCIGUY from the Houston Chronicle’s February 5, 2011 edition would help explain. The Sciguy wrote “These things happen when we try to forecast the weather. We use the best science available, but it is not perfect and we sometimes have to make educated guesses about what the weather is going to do.”, emphasis mine.

Now I don’t expect perfection from weather forecasts but if we cannot make an accurate prediction the day before how can we believe we can predict what will happen 100 years in the future? I am not sure if the climate is warming or not, but the past two winters do not seem to be warmer, just the opposite. I do know that the climate is changing only because it has been changing throughout the history of the planet. The one thing I can say about the weather is it changes.

Man cannot predict the future. God does not need to predict the future. God knows the future. God knows the beginning from the end. Whichever side of the climate debate you take, or any debate, place your faith not in man but in God.

Have a blessed day,

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David
