The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” Romans 1:17

One of my favorite apologetics books and definitely the one with the best title is Norman Geisler’s “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist.” We all have faith, even atheists. It takes faith to believe in evolution when there is not enough evidence, nor will there ever be, to prove Darwin was right. As Christians we too are faced by a lack of concrete proof that God exists. Oh, there is plenty of evidence, but evidence can bring a person only so far. At the point where evidence trails off faith must take you the rest of the way.

For the evolutionist it is faith the one day scientists will find that crucial piece of evidence that will prove beyond a doubt that they are right. They wait for that fossil that will once and for all prove evolution. The problem with fossils is that so much is left to interpretation. Years ago when everyone knew that dinosaurs were slow moving lizards fossils were put together showing the dinosaurs as lizards. Today when everyone knows that dinosaurs are fast moving and most likely warm blooded the same fossils are put together more like mammals. Same bones just arranged differently.

Christians face a similar problem. Even with the eyewitness testimony to the resurrection, God’s Word handed down to us and the glory of creation there is still not that solid tangible proof that God is real. You see, God could have made it impossible to ignore Him. He could come to each of us and introduce Himself. Such a face to face encounter with God would be impossible to ignore. God chose not to do this. Instead He gave us so much evidence that one could logically accept Him, just not enough to be positive. That small gap in proof is where faith comes in. Rather than force us to Him He chose to let us make that last step to Him a step of faith. Once we come to Him in faith we must live in faith. Realizing that we don’t understand all that is happening but by faith believe that not only is God in control but that he has a plan which will work for good.

One last thought. There will come a time when God will reveal Himself to every person that ever walked this earth. At that time it will be impossible to deny God’s existence. Unfortunately for those who chose to not believe when they walked the earth it will be too late. Then they will spend all eternity separated for God and agonizing over the fact that what they believed was myth was in fact the God of creation.

I cannot imagine to live your whole life denying that God exists and then to be confronted with His glory and majesty only to be removed from His presence forever. Then you would live with the knowledge that the most glorious person ever was no longer in your grasp. You would have eternity to realize your mistake. That would be hell.

Have a blessed day,

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David
