One is justified by faith

Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. Romans 3:27-28

Our justification, being made right with God, is entirely made possible by God through our faith in Christ. There is nothing we can do to earn it. All the good works in the world are not enough. Faith is the only way.

We may wish there was another way. We may want to earn our justification. But wishing and wanting something does not change the fact that the only way to a right relationship with God is through faith. If there was another way then Jesus would not have had to die on the cross. God could have just told us “do this to be saved” and we could do it.

But in our sinful nature we are unable to always follow God’s law. We will always fall short of the goal. We will always mess up. We will always sin. Even Paul wrote that he does he does not want to do and he cannot do what he wants to do. Even Paul fell short.

Fortunately my justification depends not on what I can do or what I will do in the future it rests entirely on what Jesus did. On my own I cannot earn it or keep it. God came up with a better plan. Once I place my faith in Christ I am made right with God. Not perfect and certainly not sin free but I become His and He changes me. So that one day I will be worthy to stand before His throne. All my sins washed away. Covered by His blood.

God gives me what I could never obtain for myself. Life everlasting with Him.

Have a blessed day,

David

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David
