No One Knows That Day and Hour

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Matthew 24:36-44

According to Harold Camping we have just a few days left until Jesus returns and bring about the end of the age. Mr. Camping has already predicted the end on May 21, 2011 and when that did not come to pass he revised the date to October 21, 2011. Now he just may be right and Jesus may return on the 21st, but he may also be wrong. I find it amazing that anyone who claims to have read and understand the Bible would be so bold as to predict the second coming of Jesus. Do they think they know more than Jesus?

In today’s verses Jesus plainly says “Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” He tells us the no one knows, not even the Son, only the Father knows. Yet men still make predictions. So far everyone has been wrong. But, unable to admit they are wrong they change the date or in the case of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, they just claim Jesus did too come back, He just came in secret and only the chosen few know about it.

I am pretty confident that October 21 will come and go and we will still be waiting. I am also confident that Jesus will return just as he said. It could well be on October 21, but it will be at God’s choosing not man’s. Predicting dates just gets people stirred up only to be later disappointed or it allows unbelievers to poke fun at all Christians. But the greatest harm comes when disappointed believers fall away from the faith because they chose to believe men rather than God.

So be prepared for Jesus return on the 21st, but also be prepared for His return today, tomorrow or the next day. Be prepared for His return at any time. We should all live our lives like Jesus will return right now and as if He will not return in our lifetime. For the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Be like a scout, always prepared.

Have a blessed day,

David

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David
