All Scripture is God breathed

All Scripture is breathed out by God and  profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in  righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped  for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

So far this week we have looked at a man claiming to know when Jesus will return and a cult that claims to be the 144,000 of Revelation. What do both have in common? They have placed their own thinking above what God has revealed in scripture. When any person or group places their own thoughts and writings on the same level and importance as God’s word they are mistaken and will lead others down a wrong path. Every Christian cult has gone wrong by placing their own writings as equal with the Bible. Be it the Watchtower, the Book of Mormon or any other writing they are the work of man and not God. In fact one mark of a cult is that their teachings are in conflict with and undermine the Bible.

The placing of man’s word on a par with God’s is the very thing that Jesus pointed out to the Scribes, priests and Pharisees. They had wrapped so many manmade rules around God’s law that the Law of God was lost to them. They spent all their time keeping their own rules and in the process forgot what God wanted them to do. Over the last two thousand years we find people trying to add to God’s word. We have the Gnostic gospels written in the second to forth centuries. In the 700’s the Quran was written .Closer to our time we have the Book of Mormon and the Watchtower. All trying to either supplant or add to God’s word.

We can also see this when we raise traditions on a par with God’s word. Rather than trying to mold ourselves to God’s word we try to mold God’s word to our own desires and wishes. When we do this we steer people away from God and to man. In the process souls are lost. People follow what seems right rather than what is right.

Every teaching needs to be looked at in light of what the Bible says and if the teaching diverges from scripture then that teaching needs to be discarded and that teacher needs to be corrected. If the teacher refuses correcting then they need to be refuted.

God gave us His word so we might come to Him. We all need to spend time with it.

Have a blessed day,

David

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David
