The Law is for the Lawless

Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted. 1 Timothy 1:8-11

Honest people do not need the law. Good people do not need the law. The law is there to punish the bad people, those that steal, murder and hurt others. Man has laws the govern our lives. God also has laws the govern our lives. Now most of us may go our entire lives and never break any laws except for traffic laws. So we think of ourselves as law abiding good citizens. Funny thing is we still break these laws but we still think of ourselves as abiding the law. We might even think and maybe say when we are stopped running a red or speeding, “why isn’t this officer out catching real criminals?”

We aren’t able to keep man’s laws so how are we to keep God’s laws? Fact is, we can’t. We are not capable of keeping God’s law. Fortunately God know this and gave us another way. He sent His Son Jesus to us to live a perfect life, be the perfect sacrifice and die on a cross. Then raise from the grave and conquer death. He did all this to save us. He did all this because He loves us so much He could not stand that any should perish. His salvation is free for the taking. All we have to do is accept it.

The law is for law breakers like me. Thank God there is another way. His way.

Have a blessed day,

David

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David
