Guard the good deposit entrusted to you

But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me. Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you. 2 Timothy 1:12b-14

When we become believer we receive the gift of the Holy Sprite. We can guard this gift and allow it to grow and slowly transform us into the sinless person we will become when we reach heaven, fully developing the spiritual gifts we received and using them to bring others to the truth that is Christ or we can ignore the Holy Sprite and let our gifts lie useless. The choice is ours.

Now the end result is the same. Once we are truly His we are saved and we will be with Him for all eternity. But the path our choice takes us could not be more opposite. The believer who wants to keep his old life will remain an immature Christian. They are like the servant that buried the single talent and only returned what he had been given with no increase. But those that allow their gifts to blossom and put them to work for the Lord will be like the servant with the ten talents. They will reap a bountiful harvest.

God gave us free will and along with that gift came the ability to make choices. He will never force us. It is up to us to decide how we will use our gifts. Will we hide them in a closet like the fondue pot or will we put them out on display for the entire world to see and long for. Wanting for themselves what we have. We have the choice; we just need to make the wise choice.

Have a blessed day,

David

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David
