It is not good that the man should be alone

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. Genesis 2:18-20

Humans are social animals. We do not do well on our own. So it is no wonder that one of the worst punishments one can get is solitary confinement. We need each other. But this is nothing new. God let us in on this fact thousands of years ago. In today’ verses we see that no other animal can take the place of human contact. Yes we love our pets and they can definitely give us comfort but we still need contact with our fellow humans.

We make a lot of the lone wolf who needs no one but their own cunning and skills but that person is far and few between and except in extreme cases does not exist except in stories. But together we can accomplish almost anything. We have populated the globe and sent men to the moon. We have a presence in earth orbit. We build huge cities where we love to congregate in large arenas to cheer on our favorite team. We go to places just to be with other people. Huge crowds do not phase most of us. We love to get together.

So is it any wonder that we should get together to worship God. Yes we can worship on our own but there is something special when we get together to worship. Then any building becomes a special place. Sometimes we don’t even need a building. One of my most memorable time of worship was the October 1997 Stand in the Gap assembly at the National Mall where over one million men gathered to worship God. Yet, worship at my home church is always the most special. The gather with people you know and worship God is something special.

Jesus even tells us that when we gather together as a group to worship Him He will be there with us. We may think we can do it alone but God knows best. He knows that we need each other and that we accomplish great things when we gather in His name.

Have a blessed day,

David

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David
