If My People Reprise

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

On Thursday June 24, 2010 I sent out the below. As it happened that was the first of many daily or almost daily “devotionals” I have written over the last three years. The last few chapters of Daniel have been a bit of a challenge as I have had to do additional research to do them justice so I occasionally miss a few days sending them out, such as today. But with the possibly US government shutdown tonight I felt it would be appropriate to take another look at today’s verse and what I wrote over three years ago..

The above verse has come up twice this week. First this past Sunday in Bible Study our teacher used the verse talking about revival. Then on my bus ride this morning I listening to 2 Chronicles and this verse was read.

I know many of us are looking for revival in the US we see our country turning away from its roots and “everyone is doing what is right in their own eyes. But, first revival must start in each of us. As the Lord says we Christians who are called by His name must turn from our worldly ways, repent and be humble and seek God. Only then will He heal our land. Only then can this nation turn back to Him.

No one can argue that things have gotten worse over the last few decades. It seems a week does not go by that there is a bombing or mass shooting. Trust in the government is at an all-time low and no one in Washington seems to be able or willing to solve our many problems. I believe the problems have gotten too big for us to solve and the only way out of this mess is a return to the values that made this country great. That means a return to God. Only He can put us on the right path.

Have a blessed day,

David

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David
