The founder and perfecter of our faith

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2

The writer of Hebrews after showing us how we are just one in a long line of people of faith turns back to Jesus. It is through Jesus that not only ours but everyone’s faith has been perfected. Jesus endured the cross for the joy that was to be His and ours, reconciliation for we believer to God. This joy is something that I think women may be able to identify with much better than men.

Why do I say that? Men are not the ones who have to endure the pains of childbirth. Even today with all the advances in pain reducing drugs women still have to endure pain during child birth. Not to mention the pains and difficulties they have during the nine plus months of pregnancy. Being pregnant once may be one thing but to become pregnant a second time when they know what is in store for them that is another thing. Why do it? The joy that come when they first see the new baby. A new life that grew inside them and now is beginning a journey to adulthood. A new hope for our future.

Jesus endured such pain as few people will ever know. He endured this pain even though He was innocent of any wrong doing. He went willing to His death on the cross because he knew what was waiting on the other side. A way back for each of us.

Have a blessed day,

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David
