Let your light shine

“No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.” Luke 11:33-36

Too many Christians hid their lights under a basket or closed off in some secret room only to let it out for a few hours on Sunday. The rest of the time we just want to go along to get along. We do not want to stand out from the crowd. We seem embarrassed by Jesus and only grudgingly speak about Him. We are happy to stumble around in the dark like everyone else.

Jesus calls each of us to go out in the world and proclaim the Good News to everyone. We are called to show the world the Light of the World. We have no reason to stay in the dark and every reason to bring light to those who are still in the dark. Each of us has a gift from God that we can use to further the kingdom. Some of us can teach while other encourage. But the thing that all of us can do is live our lives to reflect Christ.

When our lives reflect Jesus that is the best way we can let our light shine. If our actions do not reflect our words then people will turn a deaf ear to our words because our actions are so load they drown out everything else. If we act like the world while telling others to come to Jesus the world will not see any difference between the saved and unsaved. All they will see is a hypocrite. They will ignore us.

But when we live a life like Jesus then we no longer need words because our actions will show them the Bible. When unbeliever sees how we deal with adversity they will want to know how we are able to cope. Then we can tell them about Jesus and they will be more receptive to His message.

We have been given a light brighter than the sun. Rather than cover it up we need to let the whole world see the light that will forever end darkness.

Have a blessed day,

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David

  1. Yes True David we should reflect God’s Truth in our actions, we are to willingly choose to do so and than we are empowered to do so but we also need to share His inspired words they are powerful as the Scripture below confirms.

2 Timothy 3 :16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man/woman of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.KJV

But we don’t pollute God’s Truth with man’s understanding reasoning and logic, if we want to know Truth we go to Jesus not man/woman. It is not about how good we are in the Carnal flesh but Christ Living in us by The Spirit, all glory goes to Him not us.

We have one Teacher, Jesus Christ and yet man seeks man for wisdom and understanding and so we have confusion.

Matthew 23:8-10 But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in Heaven. And do not be called Teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. NKJV

John 5: 39 – 40 Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. KJV

1John 2:26-28 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is Truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.KJV

Colossians 2 :2 -3 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in Love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.KJV

1John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is True, and we are in Him that is True, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God, and eternal life.KJV

John 15:14-15 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.(KJV)

Matthew 10:26-28 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops (KJV)

Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you shall go.I will guide you with Mine eye.
