Who Wrote the Bible? (Part 1)

The start of what should be a great series.

Veracity

God…right?  While that may be a profound and direct answer, it’s also overly simplistic. The Bible is God’s special revelation to mankind, delivered through the divine inspiration of human authors. So who were the human authors?

There’s a lot riding on the answer. Not so much in terms of their actual identities, but because many attacks against Christianity are targeted at disproving the reliability of human authorship. What kind of defense can those of us who believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible word of God offer regarding the trustworthiness of the authors of the Bible?

It’s not essential that we know the names of the human authors (otherwise they would have laid out their identities in the text with certainty), but it is essential that we know that the Scripture is trustworthy. So with this post we begin a series to help readers appreciate the Bible as an accurate, historical, and trustworthy…

About dwwork

The name of this blog is taken from 1 Peter 3:13 - “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience. This verse became special to me over ten years ago when I was asked to teach an adult Sunday school class on Christian apologetics. This interest grew over the years to the point that I took some graduate level classes in apologetics. I think the best way to be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks is to know scripture. It is my hope that through these short devotionals the reader will become more familiar with each verse. I have tried when possible to make them personal hoping in some small way to show that God’s word written over two thousand years ago is still relevant today. In the writing of these short devotionals I have been able to better understand how God’s word impacts my life. It is my hope that you too will come closer to our Lord Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him. Finally, if the reader finds anything in conflict with scripture please let me know. God’s word is the final authority always overrules anything I might write. David

  1. I have no problem David with those who wrote the Scriptures, their focus is the same because it is of The Spirit not the flesh and so they all have the same message and it is for all Generations, they all share that God is Love and if we Love God with all our heart, soul and mind, we will Trust and obey Him and Love others too. There is also enough evidence in Scripture to prove God is a reality, there are things that were recorded that could only been known by Him when they were written.

1John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is True, and we are in Him that is True, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God, and eternal life.

What is a worry is those who translate God’s written words in the flesh, like the Pharisees, they read and even study the words in Scripture but don’t recognize The Spirit in them, so they don’t know God in their hearts and the Scriptures are all about Him.

John 5:38-40 And ye have not His word abiding in you: for whom He hath sent, Him ye believe not. Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

So many read the Bible but not Jesus Christ who is The Living Word and He warns us about doing this, we need God’s wisdom empowered by The Holy Spirit (1Corinthians2:9-16)

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

The reason why there is so much error propagated today, is there are those who don’t ask for The Holy Spirit or God’s wisdom in Faith but Trust in their own or other people’s fleshy worldly understanding. Jesus will teach us all we need to know by The empowering of The Holy Spirit and yes He will even use the foolishness of Preaching but we are to look for God’s Truth in what is shared and reject the rest.

1John 2:26-28 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is Truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.

1John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is True, and we are in Him that is True, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God, and Eternal life.

Christian Love from both of us – Anne.

Thanks David for the reblog and kind words. I appreciate how you take the time to carefully research your topic, then work it into a post with a devotional wrapper. It can be truly challenging when there is so much content, but you manage to pull it off gracefully. I’m going to attempt to summarize a lot of apologetic material in the coming posts, so it might take some time to get through the series. Thanks for your encouragement!
